Internships at RechtX are unpaid
Working student and freelance roles are paid. Our internships are learning placements, not jobs. Under German minimum-wage law (§ 22 MiLoG), an internship can be unpaid if it is:
- a mandatory internship required by your university or school (Pflichtpraktikum), of any length;
- a voluntary internship of up to three months alongside your studies, if you have not interned with RechtX before; or
- an orientation internship of up to three months before you start a degree or vocational training.
We only offer unpaid internships in these cases. If none applies, for example because you have already graduated, take a look at our freelance roles or join our talent network.
What you get: a mentor, a learning plan agreed at the start, and a written internship certificate at the end.
Funding your internship
Interns arrange their own funding. When you apply, tell us how you will cover your living costs during the internship. If we offer you a place, we will ask you to show proof before you start, such as a grant or scholarship letter, or a bank statement.
Common sources:
- Erasmus+: if your university takes part, its international office can fund a traineeship abroad. We sign your Learning Agreement for Traineeships.
- Your university: some universities offer internship grants or travel stipends.
- A scholarship you already hold, for example from the DAAD, a foundation or your government, if its rules allow an internship. DAAD scholarship database
- Your own savings or family support.
Need a confirmation letter for your funding application? We write host confirmation letters for scholarship and university applications. Tell us the programme, your deadline and any wording you need when you apply.
